Canada Mortgage And Housing Corp: Baby Boomers Age

Calgary Herald Dept: As the baby boomers age, the seniors' population, of course, swells and the younger generation is far behind, according to Calgary Herald. By 2026 to 2036, seniors numbers start to slide, with net household formations at 102,000. Still, they would be far bigger than the next largest group at 45 to 54 years, who account for 32,000 household formations and if Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp.'s projections are right, younger generations will have its work cut out for them unless the older folks have worked out retirement savings to last. And builders should be turning their attention to the senior market. The Crown corporation has projected net household formation to the end of 2036. From 2006 until 2016, seniors 65 and over will account for approximately 83,000 of the net household formations, assuming a strong immigration and medium increase in natural births. That compares to the next largest household formations, those from 55 to 64 years of age at 70,000. From 2016 to 2026, however, the seniors' population is expected swell to 130,000, while the 55 to 64 ages group to less than 10,000. The second largest population during that time is expected to be those between 35 and 44 years, but they will only grow by 28,000. As reported in the news.
