Liberal Supporters Dept: The digital camera made its way from the back of the restaurant to about five rows from the guest of honour, passed from hand to hand before it was finally levelled, pointed and clicked at its target, according to Montreal Gazette. And yesterday's visit seemed to indicate he's succeeding, walking into a room of about 200 local Liberal supporters whose origins can be traced around the world -Indian, Haitian, Asian, Greek, Italian -and spending 15 minutes apparently shaking every hand in the room before taking the microphone to speak. But the visit also indicated that everything is relative; even though the party leader paused every other minute to have his picture snapped alongside an audience member, the camera passed up from the back of the room was aimed, along with many others, not at the leader but at Justin Trudeau, the local MP. "Here. Take it. Go, go, go." But what was interesting about the camera's trip wasn't so much the manner in which it travelled as was its ultimate goal. Federal Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff stopped at the Dera Restaurant on Jarry St. aspartof hisLiberalExpress bus tour, a summertime barnstorming expedition aimed at eroding -if not blowing up -the perception that he's an intellectual elitist far too distant from ordinary Canadians to ever be elected prime minister.
