Refugee Claimants: Immigration Minister

Controversial Proposal Dept: In comments laden with rare compliments for his political opponent, Kenney says he is accepting all the changes put forward by Liberal immigration critic Maurizio Bevilacqua, in the hopes of having the refugee reform bill passed by this summer, according to CBC. The amendments would, among other things, circumscribe the Immigration minister's power to name countries to a safe-country list, but it wouldn't get rid of the list altogether and immigration Minister Jason Kenney says he has hatched a deal with his Liberal critic to push ahead his controversial proposal to crack down on fraudulent refugee claimants. Some Liberals say they are still squeamish about the bill, but the Tories only need one vote at committee and a handful of votes in the House of Commons to get the bill passed. As reported in the news.
