Indian Prime Minister Dept: If Mr. Singh’s visit was the postscript to the weekend, an equally important prelude was the state visit of Chinese President Hu Jintao last week before the summits began. Mr. Hu promised a new beginning for Chinese-Canadian relations, a renaissance made necessary because Mr. Harper had initially snubbed China over its human-rights record, according to Globe And Mail. Mr. Harper doesn’t have a great deal to show for the going-on-two years of his second government on the home front, other than the Conservatives’ continued stewardship of the economy and the Prime Minister, who must have been just a bit weary after the weekend’s G8 and G20 summits, nonetheless took time to meet with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Sunday night, so that they could sign a nuclear co-operation agreement. Nothing demonstrates this government’s change of heart more than its approach to China and India over the past year. As
reported in the news.
