Federal Immigration Dept: Kenney, who visited the Island Friday and toured the offices of the P.E.I. Association for Newcomers to Canada, which helps new immigrants settle on the Island, said the now-defunct PNP "got out of hand.", according to CBC. Companies owned by MLAs and senior civil servants received program money, and there were also questions about the quality of the companies approved for investment and federal Immigration Minister Jason Kenney says he's been reviewing P.E.I.'s Provincial Nominee Program, and he's working on a new version of the immigrant investor program. The controversial program ended in 2008 after almost 2,000 immigrants were processed in a matter of four months, under circumstances that have led to political charges of corruption and calls for investigations.
