Passports Dept: Peter Michael Filitz was sentenced to three months in jail and ordered to pay a $1,500 fine for making false statements on a passport form, for identity theft, and for possessing passports with false credentials, according to CBC. Filitz used Fiedler's moniker until his arrest earlier this year, after the real Donald Fiedler applied for a passport and was told he already had one and a man who lived under the name of Donald Fiedler for more than a decade has pleaded guilty to stealing his identity. The Crown says the case is a judicial rarity with no jurisprudence in Canada, because the man wasn't actually trying to steal money using Fielder's name; apparently, he just wanted to avoid immigration authorities.
