Rainbow Railroad and Sexual Violence

constant fear: The men, three of them HIV-positive, are desperate to get out of their home country, where LGBT people often live in constant fear of physical and sexual violence that commonly overlooked by law enforcement, according to Toronto Star. It will cost $34,000 to get the men to safety. But soon the police discovered their temporary home, and a grate was put over it, leaving them to wander the streets. Rainbow Railroad, a Toronto-based charity that helps people in countries where it illegal to be gay to flee from violent persecution or imprisonment, has taken up their cause. The organization has enough money to rescue one of the men and is currently working on the strategy. The money, says Rainbow Railroad executive director Justin Taylor, would go toward airfare and other related costs, including travel documents, clothes, luggage and local travel.
