Nathan Jacobson: Canada

Jacobson Dept: Nathan Jacobson, who pleaded guilty in a U.S. court four years ago to laundering $46 million, was freed on $600,000 bond and ordered to surrender his Canadian and Israeli passports, an Ontario Superior Court judge ruled, according to The Star. Jacobson, 58, had been living openly in Canada since 2008, but failed to appear at a sentencing hearing in a San Diego court in July. A U.S. attorney general subsequently issued an international arrest warrant. Jacobson, who was born in Winnipeg, acknowledged the sentencing date in writing last May, according to court filings and a convicted Toronto businessman with close ties to Conservative party leaders was released on bail Wednesday after his lawyers struck a deal with the Department of Justice. His release comes less than a week after he was picked up at his downtown Toronto home on a provisional warrant issued by the attorney general of Canada. (www.immigrantscanada.com).
